There were voices speaking up for the dune sagebrush lizard at Monday's hearing.
"I've frequently read hyperbolic statements from elected officials that listing the lizard would shut down oil and gas operations," said Steven Schafersman. "Such statements hurt their credibility."
Another hyperbolic statement, he said, was that the science behind listing the lizard as endangered was faulty. "I've read the science, and it's overwhelming that fragmentation is degrading the population," he said, citing herbicides killing the shinnery oak that is the lizard's habitat and the impact of oil and gas operations such as well pads and roads....click the link for full story
