Former Liverpool pet shop owner jailed for cruelty
A former Liverpool pet shop owner has been jailed for four months for animal cruelty.
Simon Downes, 43 was sentenced at Liverpool Magistrates' Court after pleading guilty to 12 offences at his home in Every Street.
The RSPCA found guinea pigs and rabbits to be suffering skin diseases, a rabbit with overgrown incisor teeth and a lizard kept in unsuitable conditions.
His partner Lesley Holt, 51, received a two month suspended sentence.
The couple, who ran Rocky Lane Pets in Newsham Park until it was shut down in 2011, also pleaded guilty to breaching a lifetime ban on keeping all animals except domestic dogs.
They have now been banned from keeping all animals for 10 years.
